Taos Vacation

We just got home from a wonderful vacation to Taos, NM. My parents like to go there in the summer and rent a home for a few days, and we were so excited to go join them for part of their trip. One of the nicest things about this trip was that we were able to go for 5 nights! We had not gone on a trip for over two years where we stayed in one place for that long. It's nice to be able to settle in one spot and not have to pack up for a few days.

The first day we were gone, we spent a lot of time relaxing and not doing much. We needed some time to just wind down. Gus did great the whole trip with napping and sleeping at night. He loved being outside in the beautiful desert gardens surrounding the house.

We ate out several times while we were gone. Sometimes Gus was good, and other we had to walk him around. He did figure out how to dip his fries in ketchup- it was really cute.

Josh cooked dinner one night- green chile macaroni and cheese. We all enjoyed it- including Gus!

On the second day we were there, we took a little day trip to Red River. We had such a great time! Gus enjoyed the playground and putting his feet in the river. We enjoyed the atmosphere and mountain air. And we shopped some too :)

On the third day of our trip, we decided to take a little hike. We had high expectation of taking a particular hike, but we didn't make it very far. First, we had our two dogs with us. Second, Josh was having to carry Gus and our diaper bag. And third, I'm pregnant and all I had to wear were flip flops! We did hike for around an hour and enjoyed it. We will have to be better prepared next time so we can go all the way!

I'm just going to add some random photos now.

Big Daddy (my dad) got Gus his first cowboy hat:

Gus enjoyed some ice cream while we were gone:

We brought my parent's dogs home with us- we had a car full!!

We took a long, lonely road home- as you can see.... for miles!!!

Gus had all his stuff for the ride home.

We had a great trip and loved spending time as a family.

Gus Updates

I wanted to just post a few things that have been happening the last few days.

My parents were here for two nights, and Gus enjoyed seeing his "Big Daddy." They spent some time in the backyard with some chalk:

Gus had a really long nap this morning and woke up with a new hairstyle...

Today I was unloading the dryer, and Gus touched the door to the dryer. It was still warm and he told me it was "hot." He then proceeded to blow on it to cool it off- cutest thing ever!!

Gus was a little fussy while I was trying to cook. I put him in the charge of the oil and he was a happy camper! (he doesn't know how to take the cap off yet!)

This morning Gus said "thank you" for the first time where it sounded perfect. He also said "juice" this afternoon. His vocabulary has just been exploding over the last few days, and I love it. He loves to just babble and tries to talk in sentences. It's so much fun.

Tonight I was cleaning the kitchen after dinner and went to check on Gus. He was sitting in the recliner with his Bible. As you can imagine, it warmed this mommy's heart.  It was so cute- this boy really does love his books.

I'm trying so hard to remember each amazing moment with Gus. He's growing up so fast!

Birthday Memory Binder

I am WAY behind on this, but I finally got it done this week! I had seen some ideas on blogs, and one of my friends made this for her little boy's birthday. I wanted to put everything from Gus's first birthday into a book for us to keep. This included a few pictures, his cards, the banners that I had made, an invitation and thank-you note. I bought a plain binder, a few filler scrapbook pages, and a few pages of decorative scrapbook paper. It only took me a few hours to put this together once I had all the supplies and sat down to do it. I made all the labels just with my printer on cardstock paper.

One of the banners was easy to store in a baggie, which I just punched one hole in to attach in the binder.

This binder isn't super fancy, but it was an easy way for me to save everything from Gus's birthday.

Our little guy has been keeping me very busy lately. He is talking more everyday. His new words from the last few weeks are: "chip," "turkey," "hotdog," and "dough" for donut.

Something that just makes me laugh is that Gus loves dips. Now- his mommy LOVES chips and dips, so this should really be no surprise. Gus loves queso, and this week he tried my Ranch jalapeno dip. He doesn't not mind spicy food at all- he likes it! If he sees us dipping, he wants to dip too. However, he likes then to eat the dip off and then get more. We are going to have to learn about double dipping :)

Here are a few pics of my little firecracker:
