Beyond Blessed

Finally, I am posting about my precious little boy!! I am so happy he is finally here with us. Today he is two weeks and one day old, and I feel like he looks older everyday. I have to say bringing him into this world was harder than I ever expected, but it was definitely worth it, especially when I get to look at this sweet little face:

Here is a little of the story:
I went to the doctor for my 39 week appointment on Monday March 7th. My blood pressure was still high. I had some more test run at the hospital just to make sure it wasn't severe and that the baby was ok. Everything was alright, so the doctor decided to start my induction on Tuesday night since I wasn't progressing at all.

The induction started on Tuesday night around 7:45, and Gus (Augustus Edward Hawver) was born at 12:17 am on Thursday. So..... you can guess that between those times there was a lot of pain and waiting on my part! After two doses of pain meds, then two epidurals (the first one stopped working) I finally gave birth to an 8 lbs 3 oz. little boy. At the end I was just telling my doctor to get the baby out! I kept telling the nurse that I needed to know how much longer, haha. I was so exhausted and in pain at the end. When I saw Gus for the first time, I just could not believe how big he was!!! He just looked huge to me. When they put him on my chest, I just couldn't see enough because I was trying to figure out what he looked like! His Daddy was so proud of him

Here is when Josh took Gus to meet his grandparents right after he was born. Josh was so tired, but so excited :)

My mom stayed with us until this morning and was a huge help. She cooked, cleaned, and helped hold Gus. Today is our first day at home just the two of us. Our biggest challenge has been sleeping through the night. Gus will usually sleep from about 11-2 or 11-3, but then when he wakes up he doesn't want to go back to sleep. So, Gus and I have to take naps during the day to make up for lost sleep. I am feeling really good, just tired from the lack of sleep. Josh is already a wonderful daddy.

I think the strangest thing for me is just knowing I need to arrange my schedule around taking care of Josh and Gus and not worrying about work. It is wonderful but will take some getting used to.

As for the dogs, they have been wonderful. Samson is very protective of "his" baby. When my mom's dogs would come near the couch where Gus and I were, he would scare them off. Bear is also protective and likes to lick Gus's feet. This morning when Gus started crying in his bed, the dogs ran in the room to check on him.

We had our first big outing Wednesday to Amarillo for Gus's two week checkup. He did very good. We ate out twice that day, and he was good both times.

People from our church are bringing us dinner every night next week. We have been so blessed by our church. It will be so nice for me not to have to worry about cooking dinner for another week. I am getting very spoiled :)

I will try to be better about posting now in between loving on my sweet little boy. What an amazing miracle to think the boy I hold in my arms was once inside me, it is still hard to believe. God is so good :)
