Jack ~ 4 Months

Jack was 4 months old on the 16th! This post is a little late, but I did take the pictures on the 16th.

Jack is a happy boy!

He still lets you know if he wants something, but he will almost always give you a smile if you smile at him.

He also likes to laugh!! He will laugh if tickled, and he will also laugh if you just make funny faces or sounds.

Jack has such a sweet little face, I never get tired of looking at him :)

He's growing a ton!! I don't have specific numbers, but I put a 6 month onesie on him today, and it fit perfectly.

I think he may soon be to the stage where he really wants to get moving to keep up with Gus and Maddie. They love to entertain him, and he loves it too.

He still eats every 3 hours at night. Occasionally he will give me a break, but not usually :).

We are moving him into size 2 diapers. His 3 month and 3-6 month clothes are getting tight!
He is starting to spend more time awake during the day. He LOVES toys! I think he likes to play with things more than either Gus or Maddie did. It's so fun to watch.

Jack- your sweet smile melts my heart!!! I love you more each day

2 Months ~ Jack

Just like that- and Jack is already two months old!

Jack - you are growing so fast!!! You don't look like a little baby anymore.
You are starting to get more on a schedule and stay awake for long periods of time.
You are wearing 3 month clothes and size 1 diapers. I think it won't be long before you are growing out of some of your 3 month clothes! You are a big boy.
You love to be held. You get upset when I put you down. When you cry, Gus and Maddie get concerned and want to help you.
You have so much entertainment around here. Gus and Maddie make you smile. I know that you can't wait to play with them, and they can't wait until you can. Gus is always saying, "Jack's growing" and "Jack's going to get bigger." A few days ago Gus asked me to put you down so you could walk. I know it'll just be a few months.
(Gus did this without me asking- such a sweet brother!)
(smiling at his sister)

You smile a lot! I love that. You also are starting to coo and try to make noises. It's so much fun.
I love you more each day,
Mommy

One Month ~ Jack

I'm a few days behind on this post- but I did get his pictures taken on the right day!!
This first month has gone by quickly, and Jack- you are just growing and growing!!
You are wearing size 1 diapers, and can wear some 3 month clothes! It almost feels like I can see you growing it is happening so fast. You are getting chubby everywhere and looking so healthy :) Your eyes finally decided on a color- and they are a beautiful blue just like I knew they would be!
The main thing we have noticed is that you have learned - just like your brother and sister- how to cry for hours for no reason :( I have read about people who have babies that are happy all the time and only get upset if they are dirty or hungry. That is not the case with any of my kids. I am just continuing to be thankful that when you cry for long periods of time, it is never in the middle of the night like your brother Gus did.
You have times when you stretch to 4 hours between eating, and you have done this at night some too which is nice for me. I have been able to get some sleep, so that has been a huge blessing.
You have lots of entertainment around here from your brother and sister. They both love you and check on you. Even your sister has learned how to put the pacifier in your mouth and tries to help you if you are crying. I know you are going to catch up with both of them before I know it!
I love you so much. I love just watching you and getting to know you. You are a perfect addition to our family and such a blessing.

One Week Old

It was one week ago that Jack joined our family. I'm in love with this little boy. I am perfectly content spending every moment holding this handsome boy, listening to the sounds he makes, watching the expressions on his face.
He has been a good baby so far. The last two nights he's slept pretty well, just waking up to eat. It hasn't been too hard at all. He was weighed this morning and had gained so that was great news.
I'm so thankful to have my mom here with us. I've spent pretty much all of the last week sitting on the couch. I know there are lots of moms who just bounce back after having a baby, but I'm not one of them. I'm taking advantage of having my mom here so I can completely recover and rest.

Gus and Maddie are loving having MiMi here too. Gus really loves Jack. He likes to hold him, give him kisses, talk to him. Today he told me he wanted to carry him.  I know it won't be long until they are playing together and best friends. Maddie is not as excited about Jack mostly because I can't hold her every second that she wants me to. But I know these 3 are going to have so many fun times together.

My mom has also been cooking a ton for us and filling our freezer. I'm so glad it will be a while before I have to do any cooking.

I was looking at Gus earlier today and got teary-eyed. It seems not long ago he was my little baby. And now he's running around talking with a personality all his own. Time does go by so fast. And I just stare at Jack feeling so blessed. God has given me more than I could ever ask for..

The Birth of Jack

I am in heaven just sitting here holding our precious new baby. I love newborns! I'm so happy Jack is finally home with us- here is his story.

With Gus and Maddie, I was induced for both deliveries. For Gus, it was because my blood pressure was starting to get high. I was only a few days from my due date. With Maddie, I started having some contractions and was showing some progress, but not very quick. I went to my 39 week appointment and my dr thought I had progressed enough from the previous week that we would due an induction because I live 100 miles from our hospital.

I went to my 39 week appointment for Jack, soooo ready to have him. I was hoping that just as with Maddie I would be showing progress and would be able to be induced. My prayers were answered and my induction was scheduled the next day.

We had the kids with us at the appointment. We called my mom and she drove to where we were (6 hours!) and picked up the kids and took them home.

Jack's induction was scheduled on our anniversary! Because we would need to be at the hospital at 7 the next morning, we stayed in town. We went out to dinner and just enjoyed a quiet evening without the kids.

I couldn't sleep much. I woke up wide awake at 3 and didn't go back to sleep. I was about to meet my baby boy!!

It was a little strange going in for my induction. I really knew what to expect since I had done almost the same with Maddie. I really like the hospital where all the kids were born, and I had lots of great nurses while I was there. I was given pitocin to get things started. My doctor broke my water, then a little bit later I got my epidural. I didn't want to wait long for my epidural. With Gus my epidural didn't work very well. With Maddie, I waited a while and ended up being in pain for a while before I got it. The pain to me was just not worth it when I could just get an epidural. Lying in the bed hurting is not fun for me or for Josh. After the epidural, then I can enjoy waiting and really enjoying giving birth. I felt good when it was time to push. Everyone in the room was happy and joking. It is an amazing experience.

John "Jack" Winfield Hawver was born at 3:37pm, 7 lbs 10 oz, 20.5 inches. He is our smallest baby, but he is tall!
Winfield is a family name on my side.

We will be sharing our anniversary with Jack's birthday!! How crazy is that?!?! And Josh got me these beautiful flowers :)
And now here's a bunch of pictures:

As a I was looking at Jack right after he was born, I couldn't believe how much he looked like Gus! Here is a picture of Gus when he was a few days old.

Jack looked so tiny in the carrier when it was time to go home.

The evening after we got home we had to go eat Mexican food, It was Jack's first outing, just like his brother and sister.

Josh with his boys:

And here are all three of my babies in the same chair, Gus and Jack look so much alike! (Maddie is on the bottom)

My mom is staying with us for a while to help. We are so thankful to have her here! I'm having so much fun getting to know Jack and just cuddle with him. He is an amazing gift to our family.
