Thankful-3

11) My job- I am able to work part-time and make my own schedule because I have a great boss (my husband). I worked this morning while Josh stayed home with Gus. I am so thankful I don't have to leave Gus unless it is with family.

12) My husband's willingness to take off work so I didn't have to go to Dallas last week alone. Josh took off 2 and 1/2 days of work so I could say goodbye to my grandfather.

13) My little boy's sweet noises- Gus talks more and more everyday.

14) A cool home- as summer gets warmer and warmer- I am comfortable inside with an air-conditioner

15) For a quiet Memorial Day at home with Josh, Gus, and the dogs

16) A trip to the rodeo- it takes us back to a different time and also reminds that there are still cowboys. I get to see them since we live out in the "country," and it has always been normal for me growing up in the panhandle of Texas. I often think people in other parts of the world probably think places and people don't exist like this anymore. Cowboys are alive and well!!

17) Forgiveness- I know I receive it everyday from my heavenly Father and from my family when I make mistakes. Someone was mad at the pharmacy today and yelled at me. I know they aren't mad at me, they are mad at the situation. I just got in the middle. In my heart I have forgiven them. It is what I am called to do as a Christian.

18) Smiles- I love to see a smile on my husband and son's face. Gus has started smiling at me when I go to get him out of bed. It makes my heart full.

19) Education- Since everyone has been talking about graduation, it has made me thankful I am finished with school!! I am so blessed to have been home-schooled and then able to attend college so I have a good job. It is truly a gift

Good-bye

We have had a crazy last 5 days. I asked you to pray for my grandfather. On Friday night he went to be with the Lord. My dad texted me about how he was doing on Thursday. It wasn't good, so Josh and I and Gus drove to Dallas. (7 hour trip). On Friday I was able to go see my PawPaw Jim. He opened his eyes for a minute while I was there, and I said Hi to him. I don't know if he knew I was talking to him or what, but it was the last time I saw him. He passed away later that night. It was so wonderful how God worked it out so we could be there at the right time. The funeral was Monday morning. Funerals are so difficult. My MawMaw Peggy, his wife, passed away 7 years ago, and it was really hard too. My grandparents left a great legacy through all their children.
One thing an event like this does is bring family together. There may not be a time again when all of us are in one place now that our grandparents are gone. We were able to go eat together at our family's favorite Mexican food place on Sunday night. We enjoyed our time together and got to laugh. Everyone also got to meet Gus which was fun. Gus was just wonderful on the whole trip. He did great on the 7 hour car ride. He slept through the funeral and graveside service. He was a real trooper.

In reflecting on my grandfather's death, it just makes me more and more thankful for my family. It is so important to cherish every minute. That has become more evident to me since Gus. We are so blessed!! God is so good.

My posts may not be very frequent for a while. Our computer screen is broken, so to get on the computer we have to plug it into our tv. My parents are coming to visit this weekend which will be fun. Life seems to be going by so quickly these days!

Gus had his 2 month appointment last week. He weighed 14 lbs 1 oz!!! (90th percentile) He did have his clothes on when he was weighed. I knew he felt heavy :) I think they measure his length wrong so I am going to measure him myself, and then I will let you know. He is talking more and more each day. I hear him waking up so I better finish- just remember to love those around you today :)

Gus Talking and Rolling, Menu, and Prayer Request Update

I have to share these two videos of Gus! The first is of him talking. The second is of his new favorite game. He likes to roll off of Josh's chest. We can see him moving his legs so he will roll, it is quite funny!

I thought I would start putting my menu for the week on here because I like seeing other people's for ideas.

Monday: I am trying a new recipe I found online- Portobello Lasagna Rollups- http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/portobello-lasagna-rollups-recipe/index.html. I have never made this before. I can't get portobello mushrooms so I am going to use regular mushrooms. Also am not going to make my own sauce because I just don't want to take that much time! :) I am going to have salad and garlic bread with it.

Tuesday: I will be gone all day, so I am just going to fix Sloppy Joe's and some potatoes sliced and baked in the oven.

Thursday: South-of -the-Border Chicken, Refried Beans- This chicken is pounded, and stuffed with cheese, cilantro and spices. You make a sauce to top it with and then put crushed chips and cheese on it and bake it.

Also, I wanted to thank you for your prayers for my Grandpa. He is doing MUCH better!!! He will have to be put in a nursing home when he can leave the hospital which will be difficult.

Prayer request

I would like to request prayer for my grandfather, J. W. Cobb. He is in the hospital right now, not eating and not very responsive. He is 88 years old. We know his time may be coming soon, but we just want him to not suffer and for things to be easy for our family during this time. He has 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild :) and will be leaving quite a legacy through his children. It is a strange thing having to say goodbye to someone. I must confess I have been lucky and have not had to do this much during my life. When I lost my grandmother 7 years ago, it was difficult. Although I was not extremely close to her, I still felt like part of me was gone. There was so much more I wished I knew about her, because she is part of me. I know she is in heaven, and that my grandfather will join her there when it is his time. What a great assurance we have knowing what happens after death. Here is him in 2007 with all his grandchildren

Gus Smiles

So here is a short video of Gus. It isn't his best, but it shows him smiling which I think is so cute! PLEASE ignore my annoying voice! :) I will try to get a better video in the next few days! He is changing so fast these days!!

Thankful-2

11) My little boy is healthy

12) My little boy's smiles and sounds when we play

13) When my dog Bear curls up on my feet or tells me he needs something

14) A good night's sleep

15) The smell of the honeysuckle in our backyard

16) Ranch Dressing- yes you can laugh, but I enjoy it :)

17) Being able to laugh at myself- I just made coffee and forgot to put any coffee grounds in the coffee maker....

18) My sister for this idea

19) Glasses- I cannot imagine having to go through life with my eyes- I wouldn't be able to see anything

20) Cameras- I love being able to capture special moments, then looking back and remembering good times and milestones

Today when I did this, I didn't have all of these planned in my head. I just put down what came to mind. But I think the whole point of something like this is to recognize the little things.

2 Months!!!!

I cannot believe my precious little boy is 2 months old today! In some ways it has gone by really fast and in other ways it hasn't. On those days and nights when he won't stop crying it seems like forever. Then, on days when he just smiles at me and takes naps, they fly by.

Feeding and Sleeping

Gus is eating every 3 hours. I start the cycle whenever he wakes up in the morning. For example this morning, he woke up at 5:30, so I got him up again at 8:30 to start the cycle. When we are at home he is sleeping 6 hours at night fairly regularly now which is wonderful!! He does not like to go to sleep and fights it during the day. When he starts getting tired he will cry and scream for a few minutes, then boom he is asleep. It is funny to watch his personality develop. He also wakes up very slowly in the mornings. He will start moaning and stretching about an hour before he actually gets up. He is like his mommy and daddy and not a morning person :)

Playing

Gus is so cute when he is awake. I will put him in his Boppy pillow or a rocker chair I have. When he is in the Boppy, I like to sit next to him and talk to him. He just smiles at me and looks around at the world. His daddy has already started teaching him. Josh started counting with his fingers for Gus a week or two ago. Now Gus puts up his fists with daddy and tries to separate his fingers to count. We think he is pretty smart! ;) Gus is good at mimicking. I started sticking my tongue out, and he tries to stick out his. I was trying to put some videos on here but they are too big! :( He has started cooing and making noises. He has been trying for several weeks but couldn't coordinate the sound with opening his mouth. Sometimes he tries so hard and gets frustrated with himself. We always say "Hi" to him, and yesterday it almost sounded like he said hi back! I love hearing the sounds he makes. He is growing up so fast! His two month appointment is next week, and I cannot wait to find out how much he weighs. He now has rolls everywhere and is almost outgrowing some of his 3 month clothes. We call his pacifier his "puppy" because the paci is a Wubbanub on a dog. (they make pacifiers attached to stuffed animals)

Traveling
Gus is a great little traveler. We have flown to see both grandparents, and he did great both times! He also has made lots of trips to Amarillo (an hour and a half away). He doesn't always like being put in his carrier, but once we start driving he is usually happy.

I think I could go on and on talking about my little man. There were times when he was screaming a lot, and I was so ready for him to grow out of it. Then I was listening to my Ipod and heard this song. I never wished him older again. Just thinking about the lyrics make me cry-

"Your little hands wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter 'cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light

To you, everything's funny
You got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have, honey
If you could stay like that

Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple

I won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
No, no one will desert you
Just try to never grow up, never grow up" ~ Taylor Swift

Here is a picture of us on Mother's day: We went to Houston to visit Josh's family for the weekend. We got back to Amarillo on Sunday around lunchtime. Josh and Gus took me to lunch at Outback for Mother's day. It was a wonderful day for me because I got to spend it with both of them.

Happy Mother's Day

So I am going to be gone for several days, so I wanted to go ahead and make this post. I have the best mom in the world!! She gave everything up for me, by teaching me at home and dealing with a bitter teenager. She is one of my best friends. I talk to her on the phone more than anyone else. I cannot say enough good things about her. She came and stayed two weeks with us after Gus was born which was wonderful. I hope I can be as good of a mom to Gus as she has been to me. I don't have a picture of us together on this computer, but I am going to share a picture of her with Gus. She is so beautiful inside and out, I love you Mom!!!

Thankful

So my sister started blogging the 1000 things she is thankful for, the gifts she has been given. I wanted to start doing that so here we go:

1) His mercies are new every morning- I love this song by Nichole Nordeman
Is it fair to say I was lured away?
By endless distractions and lovelier attractions then
Or fairer still, my own free will
Is the better one to blame
For this familiar mess I've made again

So I would understand, if you were out of patience
And I would understand, if I was out of chances

Your mercies are new every morning
So let me wake with the dawn
When the music is through or so it seems to be
Let me sing a new song, old things gone
Every day it's true, You make all Your mercies new

2) The birds I can here singing outside when I wake up

3) My little boy sleeping beside me

4) That my sweet husband gets to come home for lunch

5) That my sweet husband misses us and WANTS to come home for lunch

6) I get to stay at home to take care of Gus

7) Dr. Pepper from Hud's or Sonic :)

8) Our new church family and the kindness they have shown us

9) The nice home God has provided for us

10) All my friends that are new moms, I love hearing about all your experiences and comparing them to mine.

I could go on and on, but I am just going to do 10 at a time.

Monday Monday

It is Monday again! I thought today I would just share what I did, what a normal Monday is for me.

During Gus's awake time after his ~8 feeding, I usually try to get dressed for the day, clean the kitchen, and make the bed. Today after Gus went to sleep for his nap, I tried to put him down twice and he kept waking up. So, I just held him most of the morning. I know he won't be little forever, so I need to enjoy these special times while I can.

After his ~11 feeding, we took a trip to the grocery store. Since Josh works at the United where we shop, a trip to the store always includes a visit with Daddy. After we go to the grocery store, I make a quick stop at Sonic for my daily Dr. Pepper. Even on days when I don't have anywhere to go, I nearly always make a trip to Sonic. I LOVE Dr. Pepper :)

Gus was asleep in his carrier when we got home so I left him there while I put away the groceries and got ready to cook Josh lunch. Josh comes home everyday for lunch except Tuesdays. I love that he works so close that he can do this.

Our afternoons are usually pretty quiet. I try to do some laundry and cleaning while Gus takes his nap. Today, I decided I needed to mop the floor. Gus was wide awake, so I put him in his Baby Bjorn and mopped away!

Tonight I am going to make pasta with peas and asparagus for dinner, along with salad and bread.

I don't like to do much after Josh gets home because I just want to spend time with him.

So there is a typical day for me right now. I wouldn't trade it for anything :)
